Since the renewed law on cameras of 25 may 2018, police officers in Belgium may now use bodycameras or dashcams without difficult authorisations. In theory this means that officers are allowed to record civilians during an intervention or a crazy car chase. And this without any administrative liabilities.
In The Netherlands, the law had already been active since 2016, but now in Belgium this is a great relief for a large number of police corps who have been looking out for wearable cameras for a long time.
Vandeputte is now working together with Zepcam, a Dutch technology company specialised in mobile video technology.

How does a bodycamera work?
Vandeputte is distributing 2 types of bodycams: the Zepcam T2 and Zepcam T1 Live + accessories.
You are supposed to wear the Zepcam T2 on your body, if not with an adapter. The camera saves all important interventions which you have recorded on the internal memory. After an intervention you place your bodycam in a dockingstation which then sends the recorded footage to the control center. That is where you are able to watch and edit footage.
The big difference with the Zepcam T1 Live is that this camera streams video directly to the control room, either via wifi, 3G or 4G.
