The 3M™ PELTOR™ ComTac™ VIII Headset helps protect your hearing and improve auditory environmental awareness and communication in ch allenging conditions. The ambient listening function, also known as 'talk-through', is a way of electronically passing safe audio sounds past the individual hearing protection while protecting your hearing from harmful sounds. A microphone receives sounds outside the headset and sends them to a speaker in the headset. The level-dependent digital audio circuit detects sound levels above the desired threshold and compresses them to a safe decibel level or amplifies weak sounds to an audible level. The ComTac™ VIII features our latest ambient microphones placed in a wider and deeper parabolic design. The MAP feature provides advanced ambient awareness modes that give access to a variety of gain settings, but with frequency shaping, to improve aural performance in five conditions. The MAP profiles are designed for a variety of combat and combat support operations. ComTac™ VIII features soundscape to enhance speech intelligibility in noise. Soundscape can automatically change product settings depending on the user environment.
External communication and ambient listening functions are independent with respect to the Rx/Tx failsafe design. In the event of electronic failure or a flat battery, communication with external devices continues to function.
