The use of lithium-ion batteries has increased enormously over the past few years. These batteries are used in electric vehicles, tools and in portable electrical devices.
Although these batteries make our lives a lot easier, they also come with risks. Small technical or mechanical defects can lead to a battery overheating and catching fire or even exploding. This can have serious consequences for the environment and the safety of people, particularly if these batteries are stored in an environment that is not fire-safe.
Fire-proof storage cabinets
Lithium-ion charging and storage cabinets offer a fire-proof storage space in the event of a fire breaking out due to a defective battery. The batteries can also be charged safely in the cabinet. These cabinets are primarily used for batteries for bikes, scooters, mopeds, hand tools and similar items.
Triggered by initial smoke detection
Thanks to two smoke detectors and a temperature detector, the initial indications of a fire hazard are rapidly converted into an alarm. If the tiniest amount of smoke is detected, the detectors send a signal to the controller, located in the cabinet. The controller will then go through a series of steps:
- Alarms via siren and red flashing light
- Transfer of alarm to fire control room
- Battery charging process interrupted
- Active ventilation disconnected
- Overpressure valve closed
- Activating the FirePro® generator
Intelligent software also means that you are notified about important parameters, such as temperature, location and the position of the doors, via your mobile phone app.
In order to ensure safety, the safety cabinets are also fitted with self-closing, lockable doors. There are also shelves, each of which is fitted with eight sockets so that the lithium-ion batteries can be safely charged for their next use.
